Title
Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a Professional Consulting Services Agreement with CDM Smith, Inc. for a water supply study.
Body
The City of Round Rock utilizes several different raw water sources for its potable water system including three surface lakes located within two different water basins, and groundwater from the Edwards Aquifer. Based on Round Rock’s water masterplaning efforts, the City currently estimates it has sufficient water to reach a buildout service population of 270,000 people.
However, as the City continues to grow and develop, a deeper analysis of Round Rock’s existing water sources and possible enhancements to those sources is warranted. The intent of this study is to develop a comprehensive, integrated, and sustainable plan and schedule for managing the City’s future water needs.
The study will include an evaluation and plan for near-term, mid and long-term actions to address the City’s water needs. The study will include looking at existing demands and constraints, developing a detailed gap analysis, and looking at a portfolio of supply options to address any gaps identified. The supply options include evaluating the Edwards Aquifer, Trinity Aquifer, current regional groundwater import projects, aquifer storage and recovery, and various reuse water alternatives.
The City of Round Rock selected CDM Smith, Inc. to complete the Water Supply Study for an overall cost of $343,650.00. With this study, the City will continue to define its water source portfolio to ensure Round Rock’s near-term and future needs are addressed in the most comprehensive and sustainable way possible.
