Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute Supplemental Contract No. 1 with AECOM Technical Services, Inc. for the Water Treatment Plant Miscellaneous Improvements Project.

Body

The City of Round Rock owns and operates a surface water treatment plant (WTP) south of Westinghouse Road. The WTP can treat approximately 52 million gallons of water per day through three existing treatment plant phases: Phase 3, Phase 4, and Phase 5. These treatment plant phases were constructed between 1996 and 2003. Due to the age of the treatment plant phases, various equipment and piping have reached the end of their useful life and are becoming a maintenance issue.

The City requested AECOM to review the condition of the miscellaneous piping and equipment and develop a rehabilitation plan to replace failing components. The project will evaluate and replace the chemical piping associated with the alum and polymer chemical feed systems, which are required for the water treatment plant to operate effectively.  Additionally, the project will replace the wash down water piping associated with all phases of the treatment plant. Other plant improvements include installing sample lines from different points in the treatment process to the existing laboratory and replacing failed valve operating stems.

This item is a supplemental engineering contract to AECOM’s original engineering services contract which adds construction phase services. The design of the replacements has been completed, and construction phase services from AECOM are necessary to ensure construction proceeds. These include contract administration, communication, coordination, site visits, submittal review, shop drawing review, owner assistance, change orders, and startup and commissioning.
