Title

Consider a resolution adopting the City of Round Rock Utility Profile and Water Conservation Plan.

Body

The City has determined that an aggressive water conservation and drought contingency program will protect the integrity of water supply facilities, prolong the life of existing water sources, and minimize the impacts of water supply shortages.  In addition to a Drought Contingency Plan, the City must also submit a Water Conservation Plan (WCP) to the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) because the City is currently receiving financial assistance of greater than $500,000 from the TWDB and we have over 3,300 connections to our water system.

The WCP is a document in which the City can plan, program, and create a sustainable and efficient water conservation program.  A program that over time can help the City prepare for increasing population growth, water shortages, high seasonal demand, and potential water scarcity. The WCP also helps guide a City on a path of smart and efficient water use practices, reductions in water loss, and education and outreach for our water customers.  The WCP incorporates current and future strategies, analyzing why water is important to the City, and what water conservation strategies we are willing to implement to create a sustainable water future.

The WCP also includes a Utility Profile, which is an evaluation of the City's water and wastewater system and customer water use characteristics, identifies water conservation opportunities, and helps set goals which are measured by the Water Conservation Program.

The WCP must be approved by the City Council and submitted to the TWDB every five years.
