Title

Consider an ordinance authorizing a temporary construction speed zone on a portion of South Mays Street from Nash Street to Bagdad Avenue. (First Reading)(Requires Two Readings)

Body

This engineering memorandum recommends reducing the speed limit of South Mays Street from Nash Street to Bagdad Avenue from 35 mph to 25 mph during the construction activities for the South Mays Street Wall Stabilization project. The project requires removal of portions of the roadbed at the south end of the “Immortal 10” bridge. The project has two Traffic Control Phases (TCP) that require setting continuous concrete barrier and orange traffic barrels along an excavation zone and reducing traffic from 4 lanes to 2 lanes. A speed limit reduction from 35 mph to 25 mph is recommended to provide a safer work zone environment for both the traveling public and construction workers during the project.
