The rapid growth of the City of Round Rock on the north side has caused increased traffic congestion over the years. This has also led to safety issues for drivers and pedestrians. The intersection of F.M. 3406, Old Settlers Boulevard, and I-H 35 is a good example of this.
We have previously shared with Council and the Type B Board the need for improvements along 3406 between Mays and Chisholm Trail. The congestion in this area will become more of an issue with the opening of the Sports Center. Although we cannot make changes to the TxDOT facilities, we believe that with the addition of some dedicated, continuous turn lanes and restricted left turns, (as depicted in the map provided) we can offer some relief. This project is intended to provide that relief.
The City of Round Rock opened bids for the F.M. 3406 - East Project on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. Three sealed bids were received. Smith Contracting Company, Inc. submitted a bid of $1,490,244.39; Joe Bland Construction, LP submitted a bid of $1,897,658.07; and Patin Construction,LLC submitted a bid of $1,950,450. The apparent low bidder is Smith Contracting Company, Inc. with a bid of $1,490,244.39.
