The Heritage Trail East project will continue the trails system from the completed Heritage Trail West segment. The project includes a 10-foot-wide trail designed to tell the history of Round Rock through a chronological timeline, extending from Mays Street to Georgetown Street. In addition to the trail itself, the project will incorporate a variety of improvements and programmatic elements that celebrate the area’s history and enhance the corridor. These elements will include historical interpretation, educational opportunities, arts and cultural features, general park amenities, and spaces designed to support community events. The project is also intended to encourage development and revitalization along the corridor, further connecting the trail to the surrounding community.
In late 2023, the Parks and Recreation Department was awarded a Transportation Alternatives Grant in the amount of $6,302,417 for the Heritage Trail East project, with $318,159 of that allocated for indirect state costs. Following the grant award, the City and its design consultants worked extensively through the required TxDOT processes to advance the project to construction.
The project was advertised for bids in June 2026, and a total of nine (9) bids were received and evaluated. Patin Construction submitted the lowest responsive bid. The City has successfully partnered with Patin Construction on several projects in the past, including the Heritage Trail West project, providing the City with familiarity and confidence in the contractor’s ability to successfully deliver this project.
