Title
Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a contract with Pravo Construction for the Palm House Restoration Project.
Body
As part of the Griffith Remodel and Paseo project, the Palm House was relocated to the original historical site at the Old Settlers Association, East Palm Valley Blvd. This agreement is for the restoration of the Palm House to historical conditions. Work includes repairs to windows, doors, roofing, and the front porch. Electrical and mechanical systems will be brought up to code and the home will receive an ADA access ramp. All work to be performed has been approved by the Texas Historical Commission.
The City had nine respondents to a best value bid for the historic renovation of the Palm House. Pravo Construction was found to be the lowest responsible bidder. Pravo has previous historical renovation experience, including the projects titled Norwood 4th Floor, Karlin Real Estate, and LBJ Presidential Library. The construction budgets for these projects ranged from $320,000 to $2.3 million. Pravo Construction has also demonstrated a successful history of commercial construction. With City Council’s approval of this agreement, restoration of the Palm House could start by April and be complete by September 2026.
