Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute an Agreement with Fire-Dex GW, LLC d/b/a “Gear Wash” for the purchase of turnout gear cleaning services.

Body

The purpose of this proposal is to request approval for the purchase of professional bunker gear cleaning and inspection services in compliance with NFPA 1851: Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Protective Ensembles for Structural Fire Fighting and Proximity Fire Fighting. NFPA 1851 requires that structural firefighting protective gear be professionally cleaned and inspected at least annually, or more frequently if contaminated or exposed to hazardous substances.

These services are necessary to ensure the health and safety of department personnel by maintaining turnout gear in accordance with national safety standards, extending the service life of the gear, and reducing exposure to carcinogens and other hazardous contaminants.

Scope of Services

The proposed purchase would include the following:

Advanced cleaning and decontamination of structural firefighting gear (jackets, pants, hoods, gloves, and liners)

Advanced inspections performed by an ISP (Independent Service Provider) certified to NFPA 1851 standards

Minor repairs and documentation of all work performed

Pickup and delivery service for convenience and reduced downtime

Record keeping and compliance tracking for all cleaned and inspected gear

This purchase will be made through the Sourcewell Cooperative Contract #010424-DEX, which remains in effect through March 27, 2028.

Cost: $500,000.00
