Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute Quantity Adjustment/Change Order No. 2 with S.J. Louis Construction of Texas, LTD for the University Boulevard (Phase I) and Parcel 150 (Phase II) 36-In Water Line Project.
Body
The 2011 Water Master Plan identified 36" water lines are needed in order to provide sufficient water capacity to the Northeast Quadrant of the City. The University Boulevard 36" Water Line Project consist of approximately 8,500 L.F. of 36" water line beginning at the southeast corner of the F.M. 1460 and University Boulevard intersection and proceeding eastward along University Boulevard to the future intersection of Arterial "A" / University Boulevard. The Parcel 150 36" water line consists of approximately 6,500 L.F. 36" water line beginning at the end of the University 36" water line at University Boulevard and generally running south along the future Arterial "A" route to County Road 112.
On April 3, 2014, eleven bids were submitted for this water project. The lowest bid in the amount of $5,829,401.61 was submitted by S. J. Louis Construction. This amount was below the engineer's estimate of $7,226,800.00.
On February 12, 2015, Quantity Adjustment/Change Order No. 1 in the amount of $107,964.27 was approved by City Council. This was necessary to adjust various bid item quantities and increase the contract amount to $5,937,365.88.
Quantity Adjustment/Change Order No. 2 is needed to adjust the contract amount due to a Ductile Iron Fittings cost adjustment in the amount of $60,000. It was determined that a less expensive fitting could be used on the project without sacrificing functionality or quality. This adjustment will decrease the total contract amount to $5,877,365.88.
