Title
Consider an ordinance amending Chapter 30, Section 30-3, Code of Ordinances (2010 Edition) regarding exempting school signs from the sign ordinance regulations. (First Reading)*
Body
The sign ordinance, adopted in 2013, does not address the desire for schools to display information such as sponsorships. This information is typically requested for display on the fencing that surrounds the fields at schools. Since this type of sign typically would exceed the number and other standards currently in the Code for banners, an amendment is proposed to the make this type of sign exempt from regulations.
The amendment would apply only to signs on fences on property owned or leased by a public or private educational institution with students in grades K through 12. Because the signs would be exempt from regulations, requirements regarding size, street frontage, number and duration would not apply, and signs permits would not be required.
