Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a Contract with Austin Traffic Signal Construction Company, Inc. for the Signal Construction at Avery Nelson & AW Grimes Boulevard Project.

The intersection of A.W. Grimes Boulevard and Avery Nelson Boulevard/County Road 112 is a major intersection that was anticipated for signalization when A.W. Grimes was widened back in 2010. Avery Nelson is a future major east/west arterial, which currently provides access to the Texas A&M University Health Science Center and Austin Community College.
As traffic has grown in the area, conflicting movements at this intersection have grown, and there has been an increase in the number of traffic accidents. Earler this year the Transportation Department initiated a study to determine the need for a traffic signal at this location. That study concluded that the intersection did indeed warrant the installation of a signal.
Plans for this signal were subsequently prepared by HDR Engineering, Inc., and the signal was bid on August 25th, 2015. One responsive bid was received from Austin Traffic Signal Construction Company in the amount of $237,761.00.
Approval of this contract would cause for the installation of a traffic signal at the above named intersection.
Cost: $237,761.00
