Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute an Agreement with Smith Pump Company, Inc. for utility pump repair services.

Body

The Utility Department has a number of pumps and motors within its Water Distribution System and Wastewater Collection System.  System Mechanics with the Utility Department maintain the pumps and motors in regards to small electrical or mechanical repairs, but total failures for pumps are performed by Smith Pump and for motors by Interstate Electric.  The City currently spends approximately $60,000 on pump repairs with Smith Pump and around $35,000 on motor repairs with Interstate Electric for their services each year.  In addition, the current process to hire these contractors takes longer because we do not have an existing contract with a set fee schedule.

The City and Smith Pump have a working relationship that extends back for approximatley 30 years.  Smith Pump installed the first pumps located at Lake Georgetown and the High Service pumps located at our Water Treatment Plant.  The City has not had an agreement for these services prior to now, but because the department has so many pumps and motors and has the need for these services more frequently, this agreement will allow for more expeditious repairs to the pumps and motors when necessary.

This agreement with Smith Pump is for a 60 month term, with two years of 12 month extensions. This agreement with Smith Pump is associated with Buy Board which sets their rates at $70 per hour and $110 per overtime hour. This contract with Smith Pump will cover both pumps and motors.
