Title

Consider an ordinance amending Chapter 30, Section 30-2, Code of Ordinances (2010 Edition), regarding sign regulation in the Brushy Creek Municipal Utility District (BCMUD). (First Reading)*

Body

The City of Round Rock Sign Code was adopted by City Council on March 14, 2013 and applies to signs within the city limits and extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ).  This includes signs located within municipal utility districts with the exception of BCMUD where Round Rock only regulates signs located within 150 feet of the public right-of-way of RM 620.

At their March 10, 2016 meeting, the BCMUD Board of Directors passed a resolution expressing a desire for the City of Round Rock to amend Section 30-2 of the City’s Code of Ordinances to extend the applicability of the City’s sign ordinance to include those lands within the City’s ETJ that are located in BCMUD and that are also located within 150 feet from the public right-of-way of FM 1431.  The BCMUD Sign Policy does not regulate the placement of signs on private property and if unrestricted, has the potential to impact property values, the use and enjoyment of property and the quality of life enjoyed by BCMUD residents.

The amendment would allow sign regulation along one of the gateways into Round Rock which would improve the quality and safety of signs.
