Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute an Agreement for Furnishing of Traffic Signal Equipment by a Municipality with the Texas Department of Transportation regarding the IH-35 and FM 3406 Project.

Body

The Texas Department of Transportation(TxDOT) plans to improve the existing overpass at I-35 and FM-3406. Part of the improvements to the bridge include upgrades to the adjacent traffic signals.

Recently, the City of Round Rock standardized the traffic signal equipment specifications for vehicle detection, Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) and communication protocols. These standards were developed to maintain compatibility with existing equipment and to facilitate communicate with our transportation management center.

Since the traffic signals at this intersection are maintained by the City of Round Rock, TxDOT has agreed to accommodate the city's Traffic Signal Standards and keep the equipment consistent for the ease of maintenance and operation. The city has the opportunity to expedite the procurement process since it maintains an inventory of the recommended equipment and insures that the devices are 100% compatible with our existing facilities.

This agreement with TxDOT provides that the City of Round Rock will be reimbursed for the traffic signal equipment that is required by this project.  The Transportation Department recommends that the City of Round Rock accept the agreement presented by TxDOT, which will reimburse the city $27,747.69 for the required traffic signal equipment. Net cost is $0.00.
