Consider an ordinance changing the name of a portion of Oakmont Drive to Mays Street. (First Reading)*

The City's Transportation Master Plan calls for the extension of Mays Street (Arterial M) to the north, from Paloma Drive, connecting it to Oakmont Drive south of University Blvd. The Master Plan also calls for the construction of Arterial M from Bass Pro Dr./Terra Vista north, to connect to Westinghouse. Plans for the northernmost portion of the road (north of Bass Pro Dr./Terra Vista) have been developed in cooperation with the City of Georgetown, and are soon to be bid for construction. At this time, we wish to name that portion of Arterial M, and rename a portion currently known as Oakmont Dr. (between University and Bass Pro Dr./Terra Vista) as Mays Street. We have conformed to the city's policy on street renaming and to our knoweldge there are currently no developed properties that address off of this portion of Oakmont. A portion of Oakmont Dr. south of University will be renamed as part of a future Arterial M construction project currently being developed by Williamson County.
