Consider an ordinance authorizing temporary construction speed zones on a portion of IH-35 north and southbound frontage roads, north and south of FM 3406. (Second Reading)
Body
The Transportation Department requests a temporary construction speed zone for part of the TxDOT Mobility 35 Corridor; specifically, for the bridge replacement and intersection improvements at FM 3406 (CSJ#0015-09-179). Construction on this project is scheduled for early 2017.
During construction of the bridge, the proposed temporary construction speed limit would reduce the existing speed limit from 60 miles per hour to 50 miles per hour, from Mile Point 4.227 to 3.989 (i.e. segments of both northbound & southbound frontage roads north of FM 3406). Additionally, the existing speed limits would be reduced from 55 miles per hour to 50 miles per hour, from Mile Point 3.989 to 3.420 (i.e. segments of both northbound & southbound frontage roads south of FM 3406). The total length of the temporary construction speed zone is approximately 0.807 miles as depicted in the accompanying exhibit.
The Transportation Department recommends approval of this temporary construction speed zone.
