Consider proclaiming January 2017 as "National Mentoring Month" in the City of Round Rock.

WHEREAS, youth mentoring is recognized as a powerful youth development strategy, offering guidance, support, and encouragement to help young people become responsible, productive adults; and
WHEREAS, strong mentoring programs help young people stay in school and improve academically, boost self-esteem and communication skills, and improve chances of going on to higher education; and
WHEREAS, the demand for mentoring far exceeds the number of adults who volunteer to become mentors; and
WHEREAS, the Round Rock Independent School District’s STARS Mentoring Program brings together caring adults and young people who need positive role models;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALAN MCGRAW, Mayor of the City of Round Rock, Texas, do hereby proclaim January 2017 as
“NATIONAL MENTORING MONTH”
In the City of Round Rock and encourage Round Rock citizens to commend our committed mentors and consider making a difference themselves by signing up to mentor a student.
