Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute an Agreement with Brenntag Southwest, Inc. for the purchase of water treatment chemicals.

 

Body

On August 18, 2016, the City solicited bids for the purchase of eleven water treatment chemicals. Brenntag Southwest, Inc. was the lowest bidder for Chlorine (ton cylinders), Liquid Aluminum Sulfate, Liquid Aluminum Sulfate with 2% Copper, Catatonic Polymer, and Sodium Hydroxide.

- Chlorine (ton cylinders) are used as the disinfectant at the surface water treatment plant and reuse treatment facility.  This contract is for 150 tons of usage per year for an annual cost of $97,200. This contract is for five years and a total cost of $486,000.


- Liquid Aluminum Sulfate is used rarely as the primary coagulant at the surface water treatment plant. This contract is for 50 dry tons of usage per year for an annual cost of $10,700. This contract is for five years and a total cost of $53,500.


- Liquid Aluminum Sulfate with 2% Copper is used as the primary coagulant at the surface water treatment plant. This contract is for 500 dry tons of usage per year for an annual cost of $136,620. This contract is for five years and a total cost of 683,100.


- Catatonic Polymer is used as a coagulant aid at the surface water treatment plant. This contract is for 108,000 pounds of usage per year for an annual cost of $64,584. This contract is for five years and a total cost of $322.920.


- Sodium Hydroxide is used to neutralize chlorine gas in the event of a leak at the surface water treatment plant.  This contract is for 3,025 gallons of usage per year for an annual cost of $4,809.75. This contract is for five years and a total cost of $24,048.75

Brenntag Southwest has been an approved vendor in the City since 2011. This total contract for all of these chemicals is for $1,569,568.75.
