Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the City Manager to issue a Purchase Order to We Build Fun, Inc. for the purchase of playground equipment for Veterans Park.

Body

This item will authorize the City Manager to execute a Purchase Order to We Build Fun, Inc. for the purchase of playground equipment for Veterans Park.

Items included in this Purchase Order include: the removal and disposal of existing playground equipment, any necessary excavation, the installation of new playground equipment and engineered wood fiber.

The Veterans Park Improvement Project is jointly funded through Parks and Recreation General Self Finance funds and CDBG HUD Entitlement Grants. Members of the Parks and Recreation team met with the neighborhood twice to gather input on the park improvement plan.  The final plan presented to the neighborhood received positive feedback and the neighborhood was excited to see the redevelopment efforts. The first phase of the project included the demolition of existing park amenities, construction of a new pedestrian path system, and installation of a new pavilion and site furnishings. The second phase of the project has included improvements to the existing basketball court including: new fencing, lighting, additional pavement, and benches; as well as lighting in the pavilion. The installation of new playground equipment will complete the second (and final) phase of the Veterans Park Improvement Project. In keeping with theme set by the park's name and the veterans monument adjacent, the new playground is military-themed.
