Title

Consider an ordinance adopting the National Electrical Code 2017 Edition and other amendments to Chapter 10, Code of Ordinances (2010 Edition), regarding the Electrical Code. (First Reading)*

Body

This update to the City's Electrical Code removes requirements related to issuance and administration of electrical licenses, as the State of Texas now handles licensing.  In addition, the update adopts the 2017 edition of the National Electrical Code.  This will allow the use of aluminum wiring in commercial applications, limited to panel to panel connections.  This will allow for considerable cost savings for buildings being constructed in Round Rock, which until this time were required to use copper wiring in all connections, as specified in the 2002 National Electrical Code.
