Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the City Manager to submit a grant application to the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division, for funds to purchase rifle-resistant body armor.

Body

The proposed resolution authorizes a $120,789 grant application to the State which, if awarded, will allow the purchase of rifle-resistant body armor for police officers. Senate Bill 12 passed during the last regular session of the Legislature made $25 million available statewide to law enforcement agencies in response to the July 2016 shooting of police officers in Dallas. This armor provides officers a higher level of protection from high-powered firearms than provided by their standard-issue body armor. This is a one-year grant program, and no city matching funds are required.

Cost: $120,789
