Body

This is a $2,476,350 agreement with HKS, Inc. for the design of a Convention Center to be located on a portion of 350 acres at the corner of Kenney Fort Blvd. and U.S. 79.

The scope of this agreement is for design and construction documents for Phase I construction of a Convention Center operated and managed by Kalahari Resorts. The preliminary specifications for the Kalahari Convention Center includes approximately 200,000 Sq. Ft. with major space breakdown as follows:

Grand Ballroom with approximately 42,000 Sq. Ft.

Junior Ballroom with approximately 26,0000 Sq. Ft.

Meeting Rooms and Boardrooms comprising approximately 24,000 Sq. Ft.

Pre-function, Restrooms, Registration areas and other front-of-house circulation and support spaces.

Receiving, loading, prep kitchen, storage and other back-of-house circulation and support spaces.

Note: This agreement is for the design work. A construction contract for the Convention Center will be coming to the Council at a later date.

It is also important to note that this expenditure is part of the $40,000,000 investment the City has committed to make into the Convention Center that will ultimately be completely paid for out of tax revenues generated on the 350 acre project site.
