Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to submit a grant application to the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) 2019-2022 Program Call, for bus stop lighting systems.

Body

The City launched phase one of its first fixed route bus system on August 21, 2017. The first phase of the system includes a total of 74 bus stops with varied field conditions and proximity to lighting. The addition of solar lighting at stops which are not near street lights will have a direct affect on rider's perception of safety and security and their ability to clearly and quickly identify route information. The more secure a rider feels the more they will use transit. Adding lighting may also attract new riders. In addition, safety and security are high priorities for riders, the Federal Transit Administration, and the City.

This resolution hereby authorizes the Mayor to execute any relevant agreements that may come from this Program Call.  Any associated funding will not be determined until and unless this project is selected.  The local match will be determined by the amount of funding received, if any, and brought to Council at a later date for approval.
