Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a Contract with Prota, Inc. for the Water Treatment Plant Phases 3 & 4 - Filter Rehabilitation Project.

Body

The City’s Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is located just west of IH-35 near Westinghouse Road on the north end of Round Rock. The WTP has been constructed in phases over the past 35 years. WTP Phase 3 was completed in 1996 and WTP Phase 4 was completed in 2002.  Each phase has four filters for a total of eight filters.  Each filter contains filter boxes and approximately 48 inches of anthracite filter material placed above the filter boxes.  The anthracite in both phases is beyond its normal life span and in need of replacement for efficient water treatment.  Additionally, there are a total of 40 butterfly valves associated with the filters that are worn out and leaking, and in need of replacement.  These valves control the operation of the influent, effluent, waste, air scour and backwash functions of the filters.

On Thursday July 12th, the City received seven sealed bids ranging from $974,496 to $1,338,379.20.  Prota, Inc. provided the lowest bid and the City Utility staff is confident that they will perform adequately to complete this project.  The Utility Staff requests the Mayor and City Council to approve a contract with Prota, Inc. for $974,496.

Cost: $974,496
