Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the City Manager to issue a Purchase Order to Chastang Ford for the purchase of two (2) Ford Transit Response Units for the Police Department.

Body

We are replacing the 1997 SWAT van. We were originally going to replace it with an F-750, but the SWAT group said the size of the truck would make it hard to get in and out of some areas of town. They said that a smaller unit would be better for this but they would still need the room offered by the larger truck. The only way to accomplish both was to get two smaller units. This would allow SWAT to transport the team and once on site one of the units could be used as a hostage negotiation vehicle.  The smaller units would also be easier to get in and out of reducing the possibility of injuries. The combined cost of the two units is less than the cost of the one larger one. So by purchasing the two smaller vehicles it helps SWAT accomplish their task by quicker response time and at the same time saves the city money on the purchase.

Cost: $167,842.00
