Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a Professional Consulting Services Agreement with HOT Inspection Services, Inc, for inspection services related to the Historic Downtown Water Tank Restoration Project.

Body

The original downtown water tower, now referred to as the Historic Downtown Water Tank, was erected by Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel Company in 1936 and immediately placed in service. The tank remained in service until 1986 when the Lake Creek well system and ground storage tank were constructed.  The tank is an icon of Round Rock and is visible to the entire downtown area and beyond.

Due to the age of the tank and the City now desiring to maintain it as a city monument, the Utility Department staff recommend a high-level structural evaluation of the tank and associated repairs to insure the tank’s integrity and safety.  A new coating system will need to be applied following the evaluation and any ensuing repairs.

The Utility Staff would like to engage HOT Inspection Services, Inc. to assist the structural engineer (being retained under a separate contract) in his evaluation. These services will include non-destructive testing, paint chip testing, and obtaining dimensional measurements of the structure.  HOT Inspection Services, Inc. will also oversee any repair, modifications, and coating tasks for this project.  We recommend approval of this contract in the amount of $60,000.

Cost: $60,000
