Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a Contract for Engineering Services with Alan Plummer Associates, Inc. for the Communications System Master Plan Project.

Body

The City desires to upgrade the communications system for the City of Round Rock’s raw water supply, water distribution system, water pump stations, wastewater collection system, water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plants, and wastewater lift stations. The plan will provide technical options and recommended direction on the technology selection.

The existing communication hub is based on a single tower utilizing a 900 Mhz serial radio system. The system currently supports a diverse infrastructure, including the collection lift stations, inflow/infiltration monitoring, and the water distribution system telemetry. Having grown over time, the radio system needs to be updated, ensuring the technologies utilized are appropriate and provide a reliable and robust system architecture that will meet all the City’s needs.

The Communications Upgrade Plan will also review the requirements at each site and provide implementation options, along with a sequencing approach, and final design requirements. After the design requirements are finalized, a separate supplemental engineering contract will be negotiated to develop the construction plans and specifications for the implementation of the desired communication system, citywide architecture, and specific site improvements.
