Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the City Manager to issue a Purchase Order to Siddons-Martin Emergency Group, LLC for the purchase of a used heavy rescue fire truck.

Body

This purchase is a new program and a part of our long-term planning to replace the current pick-up truck and trailer that currently operates as our Hazardous Materials response unit. The estimated cost to purchase a new heavy rescue unit is approximately $900,000.00.  This unit is an identical layout of the planned unit and an opportunity to obtain it 4 years earlier than planned at a much reduced cost.

The Round Rock Fire Department Haz-Mat team currently responds with a truck and trailer combination causing special licensing and training. The heavy rescue truck is specifically designed to carry all of the equipment plus a breathing air system within a traditional fire truck type configuration. This consistency in driving platform allows for easier training without an additional license to operate. This apparatus is configured with a command center area that will allow the team to operate and gear up in an air-conditioned space.  The command center area will also lend itself to larger operations for other incidents as an operational command center.

The heavy rescue truck has been evaluated by our fleet mechanics, haz-mat team leader, as well as the operations assistant fire chief.  All are in agreement that the apparatus meets or exceeds our expectations for a replacement front-line response unit.

Cost:  $209,000.00
