Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute an Agreement to confirm receipt and expenditure of Asset Forfeiture awards from Federal Courts and agree to continue participate in the receipt of federal forfeiture awards.

Body

This document is the annual report to the federal government that (a) confirms our receipt and expenditure of asset forfeiture awards from federal courts and (b) agrees to continue to participate in the receipt of federal forfeiture awards. These funds are part of what goes into the City’s Law Enforcement Fund every year.

In FY 2019, we started with a balance of $48,455.88 split across Justice and Treasury department awards.  During the year, we received no additional Treasury awards but received a total of $145,507.28 in Justice  Department (DOJ) awards. In addition, we also received a total of $3,403.11 in interest from DOJ and Treasury  deposits. On the expenditure side, $10,437.94 from federal LE funds in FY 2019 to purchase a drone. The  bottom line is that we ended the year with $176,490.40 in total federal LE funds.  These numbers were generated by Finance.

The second part of the document is an annual affidavit and agreement that allows the city to continue to receive federal awards from asset forfeiture proceedings.
