Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the City Manager to submit a grant application to the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division, for the General Victim Assistance Program.

Body

The Police Department seeks to apply for a one year continuation grant for the Texas Office of the Governor General Victim Assistance Grant that we were awarded for 2019-2020.  This grant was used to hire two full time Victim Advocates that provide direct services to crime victims and work regionally with other crime victim groups and agencies.

This grant is a one-year application for $116,852.30 in grant funding, with the City being responsible for $29,213.08 in additional funding. The Office of the Governor has eliminated match requirements for the grant but will only fund 80 percent of the total grant project so the City will have to fund the remaining 20 percent, which was the original match amount. We are seeking grant funds for personnel costs, software maintenance, supplies and training.

Under CAPCOG’s current rules, the City would be eligible to apply for third-year funding next year.

Cost: $146,065

Source of Funds: General Fund
