Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute Quantity Adjustment/Change Order No. 1 with Prota Construction, Inc. & Prota Inc. J.V. for the Pressure Reducing Valves 2, 4, 9 and BCRUA Valve & Line Extension Project.

Body

Pressure reducing valves (PRVs) are essential to the water distribution system and moving water from a higher pressure plane to a lower pressure plane. PRVs numbered 2, 4, and 9 in the water distribution system had exceeded their life expectancy and required replacement. These valves were housed in deep, undersized vaults which created difficulty for our utility staff to perform maintenance duties on the valves.  This project replaced these PRVs and associated vaults.

In addition to the PRV replacements, additional infrastructure was required on the northwest part of the water distribution system.  At the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority (BCRUA) Segment 3 metering station, several components were omitted from the original project and were to be installed later when necessary.  With the completion of the Arterial H 16” Waterline project, the addition of a flow meter, flow control valve and additional piping were required.  The addition of these items allows the City to serve a higher pressure plane on the north side of the Stone Oak subdivision and will allow expansion of the pressure plane as needed.

This Quantity Adjustment and Change Order (QA/CO) No. 1 is for 16 Change Order Proposals and five Quantity Adjustments totaling $61,348.10. The majority of the changes were a result of unexpected field conditions. Due to the age of the existing infrastructure, many aspects of the project had minimal original design documentation. Over the course of the project, these unexpected conditions required field changes based on what was discovered.

This QA/CO No. 1 will amend the original contract amount of $869,620.50 to $930,968.60.

Cost: $61,348.10
