Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a contract with AECOM for an Arts Master Plan update.

Body

The City of Round Rock’s Arts and Culture Master Plan will provide guidance on how the City can best meet the expectations of residents and visitors seeking arts and culture opportunities in Round Rock, and to clarify the City’s role in growing arts and culture in our community.

The City’s first Arts Master Plan was developed in 2011 and needs updating to build on the many successes and milestones in arts and culture in Round Rock, current needs of the arts community, changing demographics and population growth and emerging trends in arts and culture. The City is currently home to approximately 100 arts groups (nonprofit and for business), more than 400 working artists and over 300 plus arts and cultural events each year, in addition to arts and culture programming provided through RRISD. As the City’s population and economic base grows, market demand for arts and cultural programming needs to be re-examined.

The plan process is expected to take between 7 and 9 months and will include research and data analysis, community engagement, facility assessment and plan development.

With the objectives of the original Arts Master Plan achieved, the time has come to build the City’s arts and culture vision and objectives for the next seven years. The City Council approved funding for an Arts Master Plan update in the fiscal 2021 budget. AECOM’s Cultural and Entertainment Group and the Cultural Planning Group (CPG) were selected based on their expertise in planning, policy and market and economics of the arts.
