Title

Consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute Quantity Adjustment/Change Order No. 2 with SKE Construction, LLC for the South Creek Asbestos-Cement Waterline Pipe Bursting Project.

Body

The City has a water main replacement program that targets water mains based on their age, history of leaks, breaks, and other problems. Replacing these aging water mains with modern materials ensures safe and reliable delivery of drinking water to the residents of Round Rock.

This project consists of replacing approximately 14,500 linear feet of 6-inch, 8-inch, and 12-inch asbestos-cement (A/C) water mains with same size high-density polyethylene pipe in the South Creek subdivisions. These mains were installed in the 1970s and have a history of breaks and are near the end of their estimated life expectancy.

Change Order No. 1 included the addition of a waterline bore to loop the water line down Jasmine Path. This loop provide a dual feed, improved water quality, provided higher fire flow quantity, and eliminates the need for the City to flush the waterline monthly. The addition of Change Order No. 1 for $30,000 brought the contract price to $1,727,337.50.

Change Order No. 2 is a quantity adjustment to the original quantities listed in the construction contract. During construction, it was determined that the existing waterline along South Creek Drive was installed at a shallower depth than what was anticipated. The shallower depth resulted in damage to the sidewalk located on top of the waterline when the new pipe was installed through pipe bursting. Additionally, during construction, a portion of existing water services were found not to have been installed with encasement pipe. These services were replaced and brought up to current City standards. The addition of Change Order / Quantity Adjustment No. 2 for $92,424.72 brings the contract price to $1,819,762.22.
