Consider an ordinance amending Chapter 16, Article III, Section 16-52, Code of Ordinances (2018 Edition), regarding animal housing or care facilities. (Second Reading)

This amendment to the code of ordinances is specific regarding animal housing and care facilities. We are asking that commercial facilities, not residential, that offer 24-hour animal housing or care install a monitored fire alarm system and that if they add any square footage or height to their facility that a fire sprinkler system be installed. This amendment also requires that any 24-hour animal housing and care facility that is built after this amendment is adopted be equipped with a monitored sprinkler/detection system regardless of square footage. We also recommend that the effected businesses be given 2-years after the adoption of this amendment to come into compliance to allow for plan review/acceptance, installation, and budgeting.
